Turkey played their first fixture in 1923, a 2-2 draw with Romania. Historically they wore a white home shirt with a red band across the chest with their 'Ay-Yıldızlılar' cresent-star crest emblazoned in the centre. In the mid-90s they switched their white home and red change shirts and they have predominently worn red ever since. Their crest sometimes changes to a circular patch above the heart, but often retains it's historical central position. Turkey's finest moment was winning the 3rd place playoff at the 2002 World Cup, after losing to eventual winners Brazil in the semi finals.
