In 1977 Northern Ireland switched kit suppliers from Umbro to adidas. In October 1979 adidas changed the green V neck detail to white, a design feature that remained until the conclusion of the British Home Championship in 1980 that Northern Ireland won for the first time. The following season the Championship was postponed due to the ongoing unrest caused by the Troubles.
